In 2009 Amazon released not one but two new e-book readers. The Kindle 2.o, which launched in February, was a significantly upgraded and enhanced version of the original Kindle (which launched in November of 2007). The large format Kindle DX was launched in June and it was aimed at readers of magazines, newspapers and electronic textbooks. Both readers generated a lot of buzz and excitement and Amazon’s position as the market leader in the e-book reader sector was confirmed. In a relatively short time, the Kindle became Amazon’s top selling product and during the Xmas holiday season it became Amazon’s “most gifted” product ever.
